Your tires are the only section of your Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, or Ram in contact with the road, and they are subject to constant abrasion with the surface as you drive. In time, your tires will wear down and need replacement. When you need new tires, your RAM dealer can supply them for you. We’d like you to know some signs that you’re going to need replacements very soon.

Signs You Need New Tires From Your RAM Dealer

Sidewall Bulges

The sidewalls of your tires are the sections perpendicular to the road surface. They’re made from softer rubber than the tread and don’t have steel and polymer reinforcement. Reinforcement isn’t necessary, as the sidewalls aren’t subject to abrasion. Despite this, the sidewalls can be damaged, and the most common type of damage is bulging.

A sidewall bulge can form when a section of the sidewall is pinched against a solid object. This traps air in a raised bulge and causes a serious weakening of the tire. The rubber over the bulge is stretched thinner than it should be. The air inside a tire heats up as you drive due to friction with the surface, and the bulge could blow out. A tire bulge can’t be repaired, but we can replace the tire for you.

Overinflated Tires

Every tire has a maximum and minimum inflation level. The correct inflation for all your tires is listed in your car manual, and it’s also displayed on a plate on the inside door jamb on the passenger side front door. Many drivers watch their tires for signs of low tire pressure, but overinflated tires are equally dangerous.

As we saw above, the air inside your tires heats up when you’re driving, and this causes an increase in the tire’s internal pressure. If a tire is already overinflated, the extra pressure caused by excess air can stretch the tire rubber too thin. This can easily lead to punctures or a blowout. If your tire isn’t damaged, we can easily correct the pressure for you.

Tire Vibrations

Healthy tires will keep your RAM steady on any surface. If you experience vibrations when you’re driving, this is a problem that needs to be checked. Tire vibrations can be caused by a problem with your wheel alignment, or balancing. It could indicate worn or damaged wheel components, or it could be a problem with the tire itself.

Tires are made from several layers and are supported by reinforcement. The various parts of a tire are permanently bound together by vulcanization. It’s possible that your tire could have been damaged severely enough to cause damage to a tire’s internal structure. This will cause the vibrations. We’ll examine your tires and replace any damaged ones.
