There are fantastic state parks in the vicinity of Heath, OH, providing ample opportunities for hiking, biking, and horseback riding through untouched natural areas and swimming, paddling, boating, and fishing in the lakes. Let’s take a look at three amazing nearby state parks.

1. Buckeye Lake State Park

Buckeye Lake State Park is Ohio’s oldest state park and a wonderful place to spend a day with plenty of activities to keep you busy. Hike down the scenic nature trails to catch glimpses of Ohio’s indigenous wildlife and admire the views over the 3,100-acre lake. The unlimited horsepower lake is ideal for paddling and boating and is teeming with bass, bluegill, catfish, crappie, and perch.

The lake has two excellent beaches – Fairfield Beach and Crystal Beach – where you can laze in the sun and cool off in the water. Even in the winter, there’s no shortage of fun, from ice skating and cross-country skiing to ice fishing and boating.

2. Dillon State Park

Explore Dillon State Park’s breathtaking woodlands on foot, in the saddle, or hop on your mountain bike to ride down some of Ohio’s top mountain biking trails. Head to the full-service marina to rent watercraft and spend the day on the 1,560-acre lake and catch bass, bluegill, catfish, crappie, and saugeye.

Play disc golf on the Woodchuck Ridge Disc Golf Course, practice your aim at the archery range, or relax and stick your toes in the sand on the lovely beach. If you want to stay for a while, get comfortable in one of the cabins or pitch your tent at a full-hookup or primitive campsite.

3. Alum Creek State Park

Alum Creek State Park’s 3,000-foot swimming beach, the longest inland beach in Ohio, and beautiful maple and beech forests are the ideal outdoor escape. Meander down miles of multi-use trails that wind through picturesque scenery, play a round of disc golf, and find a scenic spot at the campground to get cozy around campfires. The park is popular for sledding, ice skating, cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, ice fishing, and ice boating in winter.
